Meskel Flower – A Love Letter to Ethiopia

Meskel Flower is a visual series created in collaboration with creative producer Ruhama Wolle, conceived as a love letter to Ethiopia’s culture, heritage, and creative renaissance. Anchored in the symbolism of the Meskel flower — a vibrant emblem of rebirth, resilience, and continuity celebrated during the Ethiopian New Year — the project reflects on identity, memory, and belonging across geography and time.

Through intimate portraiture and carefully staged environments inspired by traditional Ethiopian living room spaces, Meskel Flower explores the interplay between home, heritage, and the diasporic experience. By depicting cultural rituals, familial spaces, traditional attire, and moments of shared joy and reflection, the series challenges gaps in existing visual narratives and foregrounds voices often absent from mainstream media.

My role as photographer was to translate this concept into a visual language rooted in warmth, presence, and cultural reverence, making Meskel Flower a living archive of heritage, memory, and imaginative futures.
